DC
- Uses great actors and uses them well
- Presented a somewhat controversial superman movie in order to set up actual character development in the following films
- Taps an Oscar nominated/winning actor-writer-director for Batman
- Taps an aspiring action star and real life athlete/military veteran for Wonder Woman
Marvel
- Hires Sirs Anthony Hopkins & Ben Kingsley, Christopher Eccleston and Robert Redford completely wastes them
- Builds up Ben Kingsley as an intimidating villain, who is a POC, then swaps him out for a generic white bad guy.
- Builds up Christopher Eccelston as an intimidating villain then cuts all of his developmental scenes in favor of more scenes of Tom Hiddleston as Loki.
- spends three movies just building up to Avengers at the expense of telling their own story
- goes for a dramatic character death in Avengers, but it’s a small character who only had a handful of scenes over the course of three other movies and then resurrects so he can be the main character in a crappy tv show.
- makes a feminist director cut out the majority of a strong female character’s scenes to make room for more snark
- has a fan favorite director cut out the majority of a fan favorite character’s in order to make room for more snark
- gets an Oscar nominated director and Shakespearean actor to direct Thor, then does nothing to bring him back for the sequel
- hires a Game of Thrones director for Thor 2 then wastes him
- advertises the latest Captain America movie on the presence of the Winter Soldier character then gives him minimal scenes integral to the plot and completely spoils that he’s Captain America’s former friend/ally
- Casts a British actor and a blue blond haired British actress for a pair a eastern European twins
Yes, Marvel is so far ahead of DC!
DC
1. Every movie feels completely isolated with no recognition of other characters existing outside of that particular mini universe
2. The Dark Knight Trilogy was masterfully done and it felt like they tried to match the whole trilogy in one movie in Man of Steel
3. Wonder Woman still has no solo title and has been overlooked on more than one occasion when it comes to television / the role of females in any situation has been minimal
Marvel
1. Every movie and show ties together into one cohesive universe, recognizing that they all exist together, which allows for more characters to crossover and add to the larger story
2. Whether you like it or not, the pace of the movies tends to be better overall and typically lead to large action sequences that audiences love
3. Women play a larger part, even if it’s still not what it could be - Maria Hill, Black Widow, Pepper Potts just to name a few
Also the more I think about it, the more this reflects how the comics tend to be, too… DC has a lot of solo titles that sort of ignore the rest of the universe and Marvel has huge universe spanning titles and events.
